Dream-Flight is a small family-run business based in beautiful Goleta, California. Known as the "Goodland," this serene coastal community provides much inspiration, as well as a variety of soaring conditions for developing and refining our wind-powered designs.
Our goal is to create unique aircraft that are pure fun to fly. Beginners through experts will appreciate the simplicity and versatility of our designs. Our passion is creating quality, affordable R/C aircraft that get more people outdoors to enjoy the wind and sun.
We are fortunate to have very talented manufacturing partners that enable us to bring our products to market. We are excited to apply these new resources to fresh designs and the original classics that have been enjoyed around the world by so many of our friends.
Michael Richter (Founder of Dream-Flight, LLC)
Since childhood, soaring objects have inspired Michael's imagination and creative spirit. In high school Michael began experimenting with flying wings, and he became hooked on their simplicity and the unique aerodynamic challenges they posed. During this time, he was inspired to develop the Weasel design, and began selling them in kit form to local Santa Barbara modelers in 1996.
After graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2001 as a mechanical engineer, Michael had the opportunity to work on full-size sailplanes for a short stint at Schempp-Hirth Flugzeugbau in Germany. Upon returning home to California, Michael decided to follow his childhood passion by manufacturing and selling R/C glider designs out of his parents' garage. Dream-Flight was born!
Ever since, Michael has been building the business and now sells worldwide. He has a wife, Ashley, who helps out when needed, and two young sons who keep him focused on having fun.
A second-generation modeler, George began flying 2 meter floaters in grade school around Palos Verdes, California with the endless support of his father, Andres. They would frequent many of the South Bay slope spots like Del Cerro, Avenue D in Redondo Beach, and the famed Hughes Hill. Over the years the pair would dabble in nearly all forms of model aviation, but moving away from California would put a break on soaring while other disciplines came to the forefront like pattern flying and pylon racing.
After a 7-year stay in Illinois working as a Product Manager for one of the larger hobby brands, it was time to come home to California and join Dream-Flight in 2012. Collaborating on all facets of the business, George contributes the well-rounded position of an experienced product developer and lifelong modeler. Outside of flying RC airplanes, George enjoys racing RC cars, filling sacks of rockfish on the Stardust out of Santa Barbara, and spending time with his lovely partner Annie and their Australian Shepherd Ellie.
